February 26, 2015

Project ARRIBA (Advanced Retraining & Redevelopment Initiative in Border Areas), a 501 c-3, non-profit organization that provides high-skilled training to El Pasoans recently held their second annual fundraiser where program graduates shared their experiences.

Stephanie Flores, BSN Charge Nurse at Sierra Medical Center was one of the successful Project ARRIBA participants who shared how this program helped her obtain a nursing education and empowered her to become self-sustaining for her and her family. Stephanie shared her family’s struggle as she attended college while living paycheck to paycheck. She had to put one child in daycare and with another child on the way, her family had to receive government assistance. Project ARRIBA became a blessing for Stephanie and her family as they helped her pay for books, scrubs, nursing shoes and her board exam fees. The life of Stephanie and her family has dramatically changed after she obtained her nursing degree. Post graduation, Stephanie began her career as a nurse at Sierra Medical Center and is now able to provide for her daughters without government assistance. Stephanie now gives back to our community through her church and other community programs. Thanks to Project ARRIBA for their wonderful work that is transforming the lives of families in our community!
